Scope:
The project involved asbestos removal, demolition and replacement of a new school as well as ground remediation. Hawk Surveying’s role was to lead the commercial team through pre-contract market testing, value engineering and change management. We negotiated and secured contracts, managed risks associated with the Covid-19 pandemic and lead on the procurement process.

Challenges:
The pandemic posed many challenges, in addition to the issues associated with unknown asbestos discovery. Regular and close liaison with the client team and consultants was essential to manage risks and expectations.

Outcome:
We helped the client successfully secure a number of contracts with mutually agreed terms and conditions. We were also able to offset the cost impacts of the asbestos discovery, meaning there was no impact on the overall budget for our end client.
